Certification

Graduates of the Seattle University Midwifery Program of Study are eligible to sit for the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) certification exam. Midwifery specialty track courses are taught by accomplished and practicing professors.

Certified Nurse-Midwifery Post-Doctoral Certificate at a Glance

Increase your scope of practice by pursuing an additional certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife.

The Nurse-Midwifery program prepares nurses who already hold a doctoral degree for certification as a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM). Individualized programs of study are created based on a gap analysis of the applicant’s prior education.

Certificate Requirements

Once you complete this program, you’ll be able to:

  • Provide competent, safe and culturally sensitive care utilizing the midwifery management process to independently manage the care of women throughout the lifespan as described by the Core Competencies for Basic Midwifery Practice.
  • Utilize the midwifery management process to independently manage the care of the newborn from the time of birth until 28 days of life consulting, collaborating and/or referring as indicated.
  • Use critical thinking and scientific investigation to analyze and interpret research to evaluate and improve health care and health care outcomes.
  • Apply frameworks of ethics, structural competency, health policy and cultural humility in determining equitable care and promotion of health improvement.
  • Utilize information systems and other technologies to improve the quality and safety of health care.

Post-Doctoral Certificate graduates will:

  1. Synthesize knowledge from nursing and other disciplines in the provision of evidence-based advanced practice nursing care.
  2. Demonstrate competence in an advanced nursing practice specialty.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication and interprofessional collaboration in the promotion of healthcare access, quality, and outcomes.
  4. Apply ethical decision-making in complex clinical situations.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) CCNE Accredited

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing/Doctor of Nursing Practice program and post-graduate APRN certificate program at Seattle University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
